About

For coaches who want total transparency. For athletes chasing something bigger.

Elite athletes get a strength and conditioning team, a physiotherapist, a dietitian and a program written for them personally. Everyone else gets a group session and a PDF — and the coach running that session is flying blind between Tuesday and Saturday. Train Smart exists to close both halves of that gap.

Why

The gap this is trying to close

Australia has an enormous amount of community sport and almost no community strength and conditioning. A player at a suburban footy club trains with the team twice a week, plays on Saturday, and the other four days are entirely their own problem. There is no program, nobody is checking, and the injury they pick up in round twelve was probably preventable.

The coach has the mirror-image problem. They are responsible for forty players they see twice a week and have no idea what any of them did in between — who lifted, who ran, who is carrying a hamstring and has not mentioned it. Every call they make about load is a guess, and the first they hear about a problem is when someone pulls up.

The knowledge to fix that is not secret. It is in the sports-science literature, in the protocols clubs already use, and in the training batteries the AFL and the NRL have published for years. What has been missing is anything that turns it into “here is what you do on Tuesday, and here is the weight to put on the bar.”

That is the whole product.

How we work

Three commitments

These are the rules we hold ourselves to, and they are the reason some things on this site look different from the competition.

We cite what we claim
Every calorie equation, heart-rate zone, load threshold and injury-prevention protocol in the app is referenced against a published source, listed against the specific claim it supports. The full list is public.
We do not invent social proof
There are no testimonials, no customer logos, no user counts and no star ratings anywhere on this site, because we have not earned any we would be comfortable publishing. When we have real ones, they will appear with names on them. Until then the numbers we publish are counted from the app itself.
We tell you when we are the wrong choice
Every comparison page names what the alternative does better and lists the people who should not buy this. A benchmark table we cannot stand behind is replaced with an explanation of why, rather than a plausible-looking table copied from somewhere else.
What it is not

Being clear about the limits

Train Smart is a training app. It is not a physiotherapist, it cannot examine you, and it cannot see your technique. For a real injury, a return-to-sport decision, or any doubt about whether an exercise is safe for you, you need a person — and the app says so in the places where that matters.

It is also not a substitute for coaching. If your technique is the thing holding you back, an app cannot fix that and we will not pretend otherwise. We say the same thing on the page comparing us to coaches.

This is general information, not medical advice. Train Smart gives training and nutrition guidance for healthy adults. It is not a substitute for a doctor, physiotherapist or accredited dietitian. If you have an injury, a medical condition, or you are unsure whether an exercise is right for you, get it checked first. Every recommendation on this site is sourced.
