South Australia is a footy state with one of the oldest competitions in the world. The zone your local club sits in decides which SANFL club’s pathway you are in — find your region below for the zone, the leagues and the season.

South Australian footy is organised around the SANFL. Every community club is associated with a SANFL League club, and eight of them — Central District, Glenelg, North Adelaide, Norwood, South Adelaide, Sturt, West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens — run junior development zones that each take in part of Adelaide plus a country region. Their under-18 and under-16 teams are the state’s talent pathway.
The season runs April to September, so the pre-season is built through a hot summer.

The SANFL and what sits under it
- SANFL League
- Ten clubs: Adelaide, Central District, Glenelg, North Adelaide, Norwood, Port Adelaide, South Adelaide, Sturt, West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens. April to September, Grand Final at Adelaide Oval.
- SANFL under-18 and under-16
- The under-age grades that replaced the old under-19 and under-17 competitions. The under-16 season is around half the length of the others.

Every block is four weeks — three building, one deload — so a free month is one complete block.
