Injury

Keep training while you heal

An injury does not mean an injured everything. Train Smart keeps the rest of the program running, loads what you can load, and adjusts as the injury changes.

The problem

What goes wrong without it

When something goes, most people do one of two things: stop training entirely for six weeks, or push through and make it worse. Both end in a longer absence than the injury needed.

The reason is that there is no middle option available. Modifying a program around an injury, week by week, as the injury changes, is exactly what a physio and an S&C coach would do together — and almost nobody has both.

How it works

What the app actually does

An intake questionnaire asks the questions that actually determine what your program can safely contain: what and where, how it happened, how long ago, how irritable it is, how much load it currently tolerates, and what you have been cleared for.

From that, Train Smart:

  • builds a rehab block and weaves it into your existing gym sessions rather than replacing them;
  • modifies or swaps exercises that load the injured area beyond what it tolerates;
  • adjusts your conditioning — swapping impact for a bike or rower where that is the issue;
  • lightens the rest of the program by an amount that reflects how much the injury is costing you;
  • asks a short pain check-in after each session, and progresses or holds the rehab block on the answers.
This is general information, not medical advice. Train Smart gives training and nutrition guidance for healthy adults. It is not a substitute for a doctor, physiotherapist or accredited dietitian. If you have an injury, a medical condition, or you are unsure whether an exercise is right for you, get it checked first. Every recommendation on this site is sourced.
In detail

The parts that matter

Eleven body areas, seven injury types
Hamstring, knee, calf, ankle/foot, groin/adductor, hip, lower back, shoulder, elbow/wrist, neck and other — crossed with strain, sprain, tendon pain, contusion, overuse, post-surgery or unsure.
Irritability drives the dose
Highly irritable tissue gets smaller doses more often. Tissue that settles quickly can take more in one go. This is the variable most self-directed rehab ignores.
It progresses on your answers
Pain during, pain after and pain the next morning are three different signals. The end-of-session check-in captures them and the rehab block moves — or does not — on the trend.
Soreness tracking
After a session that was unusually hard for you, the app asks where you are sore. In a club, that is shared with staff under an explicit consent category, and never otherwise.
Prehab, before you need rehab
Every program carries a prehab block matched to the region of that session and the tissue your sport punishes — Nordic curls, Copenhagen adductor work, neck loading for the collision codes.
Who it is for

Is this you?

Anyone carrying a niggle, coming back from something, or with a history they would rather not repeat.

FAQ

Injury rehab — questions

Is this medical advice?
No, and it is important to be clear about it. Train Smart provides general training guidance for healthy adults. Return-to-sport decisions belong to you, your doctor and your physiotherapist. What the app does is structure your training around the advice you have been given.
What if my physio has told me to rest it?
That is one of the answers the intake accepts, and the program responds accordingly — training everything unaffected, and leaving the injured area alone until that changes.
Does the whole program stop?
No. That is the point. An injured hamstring does not stop you pressing, and losing your aerobic base for six weeks is its own injury risk when you return.
